Girls Tennis

Barbara is a relative new-comer to Providence, relocating from New York when she decided to leave the corporate world behind. Although only here for several years, she is very familiar with New England tennis. Barbara grew up in Mass, worked in Conn and spent a great many summers in Newport. She is also very familiar with our tennis courts and teams here at Moses Brown, as she assisted our JV tennis coach with the teams' practices and matches for 2 years. Barbara is an ardent tennis fanatic. She started at age 9, hitting balls with her father against the foundation wall of their house. She claims that’s how she recognized the importance of speed, agility and accuracy in tennis. If she missed a shot, she had to chase the ball down a long driveway into a neighbor’s yard or walk around a huge wall to access her front yard. Barbara started working with kids as a tennis instructor at summer camps during her college years, and in Recreation Dept programs during summer vacations, while employed as an art teacher in Conn. Over the years she’s been involved in numerous USTA teams wherever she resided including participating in USTA League National Tournaments. Her professional life required a significant amount of global travel which limited her playing time, but to her delight, also enabled her to attend all of the major Open tennis tournaments: Wimbledon, the French, Australian, and U.S. Opens. Her favorite being the US Open, where subsequently, Barbara was selected to work at and supervise the Ambassador teams for 7 years.
