Math

The mathematics program aims to cultivate an appreciation for math as an intellectual discipline. It also fosters logical reasoning and problem-solving skills that can be applied beyond the classroom. The curriculum provides a strong mathematical foundation for all future studies and helps students master necessary technical skills.

Course Requirements

• Graduation from Moses Brown requires six math credits, which must include Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
• The core curriculum includes yearlong courses, all with accelerated and/or honors options.
• Advanced Placement courses are available based on departmental recommendation and prerequisites.
• The department also offers advanced courses and semester-long electives designed to provide a college-level experience.

*** Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, we will remove the AP designation from our courses. Some courses will still resemble AP courses, with teachers able to use their professional discretion to adapt and improve their curricula. Some courses will be entirely new. All courses taught at the advanced level will have a clear designation that will be communicated to students, families, and colleges.
