Middle School Swimming

Claudia Sousa is a second-year 8th-grade English teacher at Moses Brown and a first-year swim coach. Growing up in Fall River, Massachusetts, Claudia fell in love with the sport at her local YMCA, where she first learned to swim alongside her older brother. That early love quickly blossomed, and she joined Seacoast Swimming, a private team where she refined her skills. At Durfee High School, Claudia excelled as a Varsity swimmer for all four years, earning recognition as a "Big 3 All-Star" and "Freshman MVP”. After high school, Claudia pursued a degree in Education and History at the University of Rhode Island, focusing on Middle School education. She is now excited to blend her passion for teaching and swimming, especially as she helps Middle Schoolers build confidence both in and out of the pool. Her love for swimming comes from her father, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for the water, teaching her to view it as a place for reflection and healing. When she’s not teaching or coaching, Claudia loves spending time outdoors with her husband, Larry, baking, playing music, and crafting.
