Eileen Sweeney is a native Rhode Islander having grown up in Bristol in a family that was involved in swimming. Eileen's first introduction into the water was at her neighborhood beach taking swim lessons through the Red Cross. Swimming was a foregone conclusion as Eileen's four older siblings preceded her into the pool at the local YMCA's. Eileen first swam for the Bristol YMCA and then at Barrington/Bayside YMCA setting records in different age groups. She then joined the Little Rhody Aquatics Club while in high school. A graduate of St. Mary's Academy Bay View, Eileen was awarded All American honors in sprint freestyle events. She still owns, along with her (former) teammates the 200 Medley Relay record at Bay View - a record thirty years standing. Eileen went on to swim Division 1 at Boston University and then Providence College. While at Providence College and swimming within the Big East Conference, she received ALL Big East recognition for 100 yard Breaststroke as well as in Relays. Eileen continued to swim after college with Masters Programs in Chicago and Boston. Before coming to Moses Brown, Eileen was an Assistant Coach at Barrington High School where the girls team won three consecutive State titles while the boys team placed 2nd at States for the same three years. Eileen arrived at Moses Brown in Fall of 2017 to a vibrant and talented swim team. She spent one year as Assistant Coach before taking over as Head Coach in the Fall of 2018. In 2021, the boys team tied for 3rd at the State Championships and the girls team placed 5th. In 2022, the boys team won the Division II Championship marking a highlight for the program. Eileen credits her love of swimming to her father William Sweeney who loved the ocean and who also swam for Providence College. Her love of coaching she credits to Sandy Gorham, her YMCA coach and mentor. Outside of swimming Eileen spends time with her family, husband Steven Craddock, children Georgia and Myles Craddock ‘24 and is the Director of Community Outreach & Engagement for RI Secretary of State, Gregg M. Amore.
