OMNIA Magazine Earns National First Class Honor for Third Straight Year

For the third year in a row, MB’s student literary magazine OMNIA has been selected to receive the rank of First Class by the 2024 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)’s Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) program. Moses Brown School is the only school in Rhode Island to receive this honor, and only 125 schools nationally received first class rating.

This year, nominations for the competition came from schools in 46 states and five countries with 421 magazines in all, from middle school, high school, and higher education.

"We are so proud that Omnia has again been nationally recognized as a literary magazine of excellence,” said Wilson Taylor, English teacher and one of the magazine’s advisors. “This was our most expansive issue yet, reflecting a record number of student submissions working in a variety of modes and moods. I am also particularly proud of this issue's special section of student work—inspired by Visiting Poet Ross Gay and developed in collaboration with Quaker Life during a Meeting for Worship reflecting on joy—our own spontaneous 'Notes of Delight.' Omnia's national distinction honors our student editors, writers, and artists as well as Moses Brown's vibrant culture of the arts.”

Chief Editor Hannah W. '24 and member of the editorial team Anna Costello ‘24 write in the 2024 issue: “One of the best qualities of Moses Brown is that it gives you the freedom to explore—to explore the world and who you might become in it. We are so thrilled to share this year’s magazine with the community, as it is a reflection of the freedom that we give each other every day.”

The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.
