Mini-Masterpieces: Students Share "Tiny Memoirs" in Gallery Walk

Seventh and eighth graders just wrapped up an awesome writing project, and the results were truly inspiring. Teachers Claudia Sousa and Elizabeth Savage '85 challenged their students to write a "Tiny Memoir"—a complete story of a memory or life event in 100 words or less, inspired by a popular New York Times student challenge.

"The kids did a great job taking risks and being vulnerable with each other," said Elizabeth Savage '85. She explained that the project was a fantastic way to teach writing concepts applicable to longer essays while also giving the students a manageable, early-year assignment. "It was a great way... for the students (and us) to get to know each other,” she added.

The process involved brainstorming, drafting, and then whittling down their stories to the perfect 100 words. The project culminated in a gallery walk where students got to read and appreciate their classmates' mini-masterpieces together.

A huge shout-out to seventh graders Evelyn M. and Ruby M. for sharing their tiny memoirs with the community.
