MB Honors Ruby Bridges' Legacy on Walk to School Day

On the morning of November 14, our community, joined by students and parents from the Wheeler School, came together for the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! The annual walk remembers November 14, 1960, the day six-year-old Ruby Bridges bravely desegregated William Frantz Elementary School, leading the way for Civil Rights action.

Addressing the gathering, Head of School Katie Titus shared a message of courage and inner light: "As a Quaker school, our students have been thinking about the concept of courage and inner light, and the inner light is that special thing that exists in all of us that really helps us to bring out our best for ourselves and for each other.”

The morning featured a video of inspiring reflections from our lower schoolers, who shared their own meaning of bravery: We can be brave by being kind and helping others believe in themselves.”

Following another video on Ruby's inspiring story, the group walked two laps together on the Dr. King “Doc” B. Odell & Peter E. Lacaillade ’67 Track, recommitting to inspire a new generation of leaders to work toward ending racism. We are proud to mark our fourth year of participation!
