Hyun Kim ‘97 Visits with Upper School Model UN

MB’s upper school Model UN was fortunate recently to visit with MB parent Hyun Kim '97 about his path to working as part of the real world United Nations. His story is fascinating and he spoke of his journey to what is now a 12+ year career within the UN, working in peacekeeping, diplomacy, climate change, and counter-terrorism issues. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Global Centre for Climate Mobility. The students who participated were part of MB's Model UN delegation who participated in the 2024 Boston University Model UN Conference or currently taking Jennifer Stewart's AP Comparative Government and Politics course.

After MB, Hyun went on to study international relations and economics at Brown and secured his first job after college in finance. Four months after starting, however, 9/11 happened, inspiring Hyun to move to work that aligned with his international interests. He made his way to work on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant, and after receiving his master’s from Harvard’s Kennedy School, Hyun served for four years as a South Korean military officer, which included a tour in Iraq and missions in Afghanistan and Lebanon. He is a member of the Harvard-Stanford Preventive Defense Project.
