Honors Spanish Students Bring Children’s Stories to Life for Second Grade

The performance of children’s stories, translated by students to Spanish, has for several years been an engaging and charming learning experience for Elena Peterson’s Honors 3 students. This semester, they’ve taken the show on the road and shared their mini productions with second graders. The Spanish students were asked to translate different famous stories (Three Little Pigs, Hansel & Greta, Cinderella), with a few assigned requirements, such as including different word tenses. Following the performances, second grade teachers asked the students to discuss aspects of the stories, such as: “what do you think happened to the wolf?” and “what do you think happened to the witch?” Previous familiarity with the stories helped with understanding along with word intonation by the older students.
