Leslie Jones started her field hockey career at four years old. A native of Chelmsford, MA, Leslie was introduced to the sport she loves by her older sister Alison, who put Leslie in goal as she practiced to her shooting. Buoyed by watching Alison and her other older sister Laura go on to play Division I field hockey at Boston University, Leslie stepped out of the net and onto the field herself. During her years at Chelmsford High School, Leslie was a 4 year starter and 2 year team captain who was named to the Lowell Sun All Star First Team three years running and was named the Lowell Sun Player of the Year her senior year. Recruited by the University of Rhode Island, Leslie was a 4 year starter and 2 year captain. The highlight of Leslie’s collegiate career was beating #5 ranked University of New Hampshire and securing a top 20 ranking for URI. Throughout her college career, Leslie was a 3 time Regional All American and 3 time First team All-Conference player. After college, Leslie learned through a close family friend, MB Alum Mindy (Fisher) Penny, that the Head Field Hockey Coach position was open at Moses Brown. Flash forward twenty three years and Leslie has been blessed with the opportunity to coach amazing young women throughout her long standing career at Moses Brown. Over the years, Moses Brown‘s field hockey team has compiled 232 wins, 7 State titles, 8 division titles, enjoyed 4 undefeated seasons, had 3 team members named the Providence Journal Player of the Year, and seen countless athletic alums competing at the Division I, II and III collegiate level. Leslie has also been surrounded by tremendous coaches; Maura O’Rourke, Rachel Motta, Andy Dewhirst Pete DeStefano and newly appointed assistant Melina Panichas.
