A Multi-Class Trip to "An Iliad"

Students in several advanced English and Latin courses—including AP English, Literature of War, Mythology and Folklore, and upper-level Latin—attended An Iliad at the Burbage Theater this week. The trip was made possible by an anonymous donor, providing a direct curricular connection for all participating classes.

The play is based on Homer's epic poem, The Iliad, drawing parallels between its themes of war and homecoming and modern-day global conflicts. The Burbage Theater specially added this morning show for the students, who also took part in a talk-back session with the performers following the show.

The production boasts strong ties to the Moses Brown community:

Director: Jeff Church '07

Performer (The Poet): Bill Harley P’02 ’05, a former MB parent, renowned storyteller, and singer-songwriter

Accompanist: Cathy Clasper-Torch P’05 ’09, a former MB parent and spouse of long-time Religion teacher Lee Clasper-Torch P’05 ’09

This excursion was a powerful experience, connecting classic literature to contemporary issues through a professional, community-rooted performance.
